Over the years, I have seen several versions of Disk Tool (from Analog 8 and 9 originally). Those I have seen:
The original and slight mods in the Analog Compendium Double Density Disk Tool Disk Tool IV DISKTOOL.EXE (compiled) The DISK MEND Versions
Any others that anyone has seen?

Hi Larry;
I never saw the first 3 you mention; did they redo the VTOC stuff in the ML code for DD file recovery?
DiskMend was not *really* a version since it was completely rewritten with minimal ML code to have a similar look and capabilities. It does not correct the VTOC in file recovery, just the directory entry!
My personal DiskTool started with the CIO mods from Analog #13 (cut 8 minutes of POKE to 11 seconds of binary load) and then access to 1040 sectors; someone from PSAN sent me his VTOC fix for DOS 2.5 enhanced file recovery, but it never worked (I suspect a lost bit in the mail).
I had also added a speedy ML printer screen dump, a patch to display all characters except the $9B, a G colon device screen dump, a hex number conversion, a disassembler, an option to write sectors to a new position, a sector block relocation routine and minor tweaks here & there.
My proudest moment was early on making it run from the Ready prompt without re-booting for the Autorun.sys; I had only an executable of the Basic ROM (they were $45) and no cart so initially I had just appended files. -- -Ron
Experience is something you don't get until just after you need it.

I remember Page 6 magazine pretty well, in fact I wrote the 8-bit games reviews from issue 29 onwards (and even got paid for them!)
I have a complete set of the mag from issue 1 to 85 and have thought about getting them on the internet, if there's enough interest then I might seriously follow this up.
For the record, the history is:
Issue 1: Dec 1982 - first issue, available by subscription only Issue 29: Sep/Oct 1987 - first issue available via newsstand distribution Issue 36: Feb/Mar 1989 - Page 6 buys the "Atari User" title from Database Publications. Magazine is renamed "Page 6 Atari User" Issue 38: Jun/Jul 1989 - Magazine is renamed "New Atari User" Issue 69: Dec 1994 - Magazine changes to A5 'booklet' format Issue 85: Autumn 1998 - Final issue
As to the article you mentioned, I think you may be referring to the "Solid Modelling" program by Philip Robinson, which is on pages 12 to 16 of issue 26. Unfortunately my scanner isn't working right now, so maybe someone can help out?
Cheers Paul Rixon

Hey, Paul;
Congrats on being part of a great resource! I considered "Solid Modelling" from #26, but decided he was probably referring to "3D Animation" from #30. It could be either; they both have a fair amount of machine code in data statements.
And, I want to go on record as personally having sufficient interest. -- -Ron

Well, it would be a great idea to put these mags online !! Maybe the software too (as ATR or XFD or DCM images). By the way, what is Les Ellingham doing these days ??? And where is Derek Fern / Micro Discount ?? -Andreas.
