Holmes has been recovered at:
user: atari8 pswd: atari4ever However, I can't get it to download from the site with a shell account, IE 6 or Netscape 7. It has about 7 Questron files, BASIC ones and 3 zip files. The problem you may be having is that the crack of a copy protected program doesn't work entirely right. You say you can get the disk 3. Often a person who cracks a program doesn't see that it can play all the way to the end.
Has anyone gotten Questron working on any emulator besides Apple where you can actually finish the game?

FWIW: The Atari versions of at least 2 of the old RPGs<I believe Questron from SSI was the one> wouldn't run on a real Atari. They played to various stages of completion and then crashed.
I bought copies of them from San Jose computer when they deeply discounted their 8-bit software to ~$5-10 each. Ended up having to buy the ST versions, which actually worked, to play the game through.
I would suggest you look for an ST emulator and try to find that version.

WOW, thank you so much for telling me. I always thought I somehow broke a lot of games and I had no idea why. Maybe they just didn't work right. And thanks for the Atari ST version info. I'll look into it! :)

Okay, thanks for telling me. I had a lot of old games that I thought I used to break, maybe they just didn't work right. In Search of the Most Amazing Thing was one of them, I owned it twice and both times it kept dumping out to BASIC eventually. I'll look into the ST version, thanks for the info. And sorry if this posts twice, but I thought I had posted it and it's not showing up and it usually does right away.

Well I got an Atari ST emulator working, Gem2000 from emulators.com. Never saw an Atari ST, even has a desktop, pretty cool for an Atari. :) Now finding the game's another issue, nothing's turned up so far. If anyone has it or knows where I can get it, let me know. I'll keep looking, but I'll settle for the Apple version if I have to. :)

BTW there were two Questrons, I'm looking for the first one. I don't think that was released for the ST, only the second one. At least that's the impression I'm getting. And the ST looks like it was a later system in the late 80s, while Questron 1 was 1983, I just did a web search to see. It'd be unusual for SSI to port an old game over to a newer computer. But thanks for trying, I think I'll stick to the Apple version, seems the most reliable. I just hope it doesn't have a bad disk too or anything. But if anyone knows another version that works reliably, let me know.

I 'dont' have anytime for the upkeep of the Atari site. The files took up over 500Mb of server space all up, and I now only have 10Mb!! Thus I put up my Sega pages which where prepared ages ago, when I had some time, as they are currently pretty small. I do sometimes wonder why I bothered running the site at all, with the bitching from people who think they could do it better, but never tried. It was up for 5 years, if you didnt grab the game in that time, too bad! There are many other sites that have Atari games available for download.

That statement makes me mad... I WAS HONEST about it. I did have two publishers email me with a final notice about hosting their games. I cant be bothered keeping track of games I'm not allowed to host. You may have noticed how slack I was at keeping the pages updated as it was, let alone having to figure out what games are allowed, and what arent. So I called it quits. Get the games elsewhere. What I do with my small amount of spare time, is my business, not yours.

I havent abandoned anything, I just happen to have a life now, and have passed the 'hosting role' to the many others out there. I still collect and actively use my Atari's when I can. But I also, as I always have, enjoy using my Sega SC3000 computers just as much. Even though the Atari is the superior computer of the two.
Anyway, if you wanted to find out my reasons, why havent you email me directly? Instead of this bitching in this group.
Sometimes I wonder why I ever bothered. People can be so ungrateful.

I think you're very incorrect about how many people are hosting these games. Why should they bother doing something you won't?

And just take the Atari section down. You want to support Sega, even though it's the most crappiest old PC company out of them all, fine. Just forget about the old Atari and let it die out already. You've pretty much gone the last few steps to that goal anyway, dumping it on everyone else. If you bothered to keep up with the scene, you'd know how incorrect you are about others hosting the files. You're all talk, no action, dumping the problem on other people, just like everyone else in the world. Really it's hypocrtical for you to tell others to do what YOU won't. We don't need people like you in the old computer scene, so just take your whole site down already, stop pretending you care, and get on with your precious life. Stop coming to this newsgroup. Then you won't have to hear anyone bitch. Or maybe the truth is just hard for you to swallow.

That really was uncalled for. People change, lives change, companies change, times change, and Aaron should be commended for the time hid did give back to the community. Some people never give back anything, they just sit back and take.
The files are available or were available on a CD or did you miss out on that too... you could take the free time you spend here complaining and host your own 500mb file archive just as easily. It's not that hard.
