While everything you said is more accurate then debatable, it would not have made a difference.
You only have to look at a list of what computers were available and who was in the business. I can think of literally a dozen brands like Coleco, Eagle, Ti 99/4, Timex, etcetera. There were even odd ball ones like Bluebird.
As was said in the movie Meatballs "It doesn't really matter."
Not all those computer manufacturers had Ray Kassar as the CEO.
Truth be said, it didn't really matter. Everyone went down to the MS/IBM juggernaut.
It's a lesson in market demographics. IBM got into the work place => educated, employeed, intelligent, well paid. Once they got that demographic the children of them logically followed for games. Apple had a good idea getting into the educational market figuring they would buy Apple when they grew up or nag their parents into buying Apple, but it ended up not being the winning strategy.
What was left after that all the other players? The what they had established previously, the uneducated, the unemployeed, dull, broke. Hard to survive in that type of market.

IBM didn't win. It was the clones that won. The modular, updatable design with dozens of manufacturers for portions of the clone, hard drives, modems, monitors, keyboards, floppy drives, BIOSes. The IBM clone was considered 'as good as' an IBM (100% compatible was the point). Oh, and parallel centronics printers. All the other computers tried to monopolize on peripherals, the DEC rainbow even tried to prevent 'standard' floppies, you weren't supposed to be able to format a floppy. The IBM Jr. was a disaster. The IBM compatible clone was the cheapest way to do computing, and MS made there DOS freely copyable. MS made most of their money from clone manufacturers. Even today, the PC is cheaper than a MAC. And MS did a great job of keeping the DOS/OS compatible so you didn't have to buy new software every time you got a new computer. Even today, or maybe recently, MS Office was freely copyable.

Not the best 8bit game but the one you still play and enjoy, your favorite.
Mine is Donkey Kong, this is the best port ever and I prefer it's random no matter how good you are you can still die in early stages if the monkey throws a certain pattern of barrels gameplay to even the arcade version.

The first game I was really hooked on was probably Asteroids for the 2600, but I must say, Star Raiders on the Atari 8-bit is solid gold. And Rescue on Fractalus, Ballblazer, Bounty Bob Strikes Back rocks too!

In no particular order, and with some slight of hand by combining more than one into a single line, my top ten are:
1. Jumpman & Jumpman Jr. 2. Blue Max 3. Boulderdash 1 & 2 4. Archon 5. Beachhead 2 6. Ultima 1 - 4 7. Drelbs 8. Alternate Reality (the Dungeon) 9. Great American Road Race 10. Star Raiders 2
There are many more of course, but these are near the top.
